HACCP Training and Consulting Centre of the Czech Ministry of Agriculture at the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague
Following the enactment of Act No. 110/1997 Coll. on Food and Tobacco Products, the Czech Ministry of Agriculture Department of Food Production established a training and consulting centre for the introduction of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) scheme at the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague and at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Brno. The centres organize courses and training, and they also provide advisory and consulting services.
Laboratory of food microbiology
The Laboratory of Food Microbiology at the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology provides examination of foods including examination for pathogens, advisory and consulting services. It organizes courses and study visits for the staff of microbiological laboratories.
Centre of Molecular Genetics funded by the Czech Ministry of Education
The Centre of Molecular Genetics was set up at the FFBT Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology following the award of a five-year grant to the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague in 1996, within the programme Strengthening Science at Universities. Methods of genetic and protein engineering were introduced and subsequently applied to projects implemented at the FFBT Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology. These methods are also available to all those interested not only at the Institute of Chemical Technology but also outside the Institute. They are namely the methods of gene isolation, their cloning on suitable host cells, gene sequence, gene modification by way of targeted mutation, controlled gene expression in biotechnological projects, etc.
Centre of Food Technologies and Equipment
The Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology has set up the Centre of Food Technologies and Equipment in cooperation with the Prague Food Research Institute and the Department of Machinery and Equipment for the Chemical, Food and Consumer Industry of the Czech Technical University Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in order to facilitate technological research and commercial activities in the area of food technology. The centre offers quarter- and semi-operational equipment supplied by individual partners for technological tests. It also brings together experts from related fields to work jointly on research projects and orders from industrial practice.
Individual apparatuses belonging to the Centre are placed both in the laboratories of individual technological Departments and in the Technological Hall of the Faculty.
The following apparatuses rank among the most important equipment of the Centre and the Technological Hall:
Separation processes:
- Membrane units – T.I.A. filtration module (France) with ceramic membranes
- Micro- and Ultrafiltration unit MUF
- Nanofiltration and RO unit ARNO
- Continual chromatographic preparative station SMB
- Computer-controlled cooling crystallization
Thermal processes:
- Computer-controlled film evaporator Armfield (GB)
- High pressure unit
- Spray drier Armfield (GB)
- Experimental bakery
Computer-controlled fermentor
Rheology of food materials: Haake RheoStress viscosimeter RS80 (Germany)
