The main activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering involve providing education in chemical engineering subjects and research in the area of chemical engineering. Undergraduate and postgraduate students participate significantly in the research, the best students work with cooperating institutes in other countries.

Chemical Engineering is a subject that, in industrial countries, forms the mainframe of the study of technical chemistry at schools like the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague. It follows that Chemical Engineering forms the basis not only for all modern chemical and food technologies but also for environmental engineering, bioengineering, medical engineering, etc. M.Sc. graduates in Chemical Engineering traditionally become well paid professionals. They also easily find employment outside the chemical industry.
