It still applies that the personal presence of students for instruction (including labs) is prohibited at all levels of study. However, personal participation in the exams is possible if a maximum of 10 people take part in the exam at one time. Individual consultations at universities are now possible.
At UCT Prague, it still applies that examinations will be possible in this period in-person (up to 10 people) as well as in distance form. The format and process of the exam/credit is fully in the competence and discretion of the subject guarantor, who is obliged to inform students about his or her decision well in advance. In all our auditoriums, of course, regular aerosol disinfection is being carried out and the obligation to observe distance between people applies. Hands must be disinfected immediately after entering a university building and mouth and nose protection must be worn.
As for individual consultations, they can take place in a “1 on 1” mode with prior agreement from an instructor. The instructor is obliged to keep a record of the place, time, and participants in the consultation if needed for possible contact tracing.
Students of all levels taking exams can continue to stay on campus during the exam period, since the full-time form of the exam is considered part of the educational process.
The following earlier measures are valid:
- The two weeks’ extension of the winter semester’s examination period (January 4 to February 26, 2021) remains. The summer semester will start on March 1, 2021
- In the case that laboratory instruction will not be able to be held by the end of the examination period (due to the PES Risk Level or other serious reasons), it is not the student’s fault, and thus the lab credit requirement will be reduced from the originally prescribed requirements. These will then be moved to the requirements for the following Summer Semester.
- In the case that a student becomes ill with Covid-19 or is officially ordered into quarantine, he/she must immediately notify their subject guarantor. A substitute examination date will be communicated to the student by the subject guarantor/head of the laboratory.
In case of changes (probably from January 11, 2021), we will inform you immediately. Regularly check your institutional e-mail and the UCT website.
Older information
- Employees: work in your university workplaces only in necessary cases and use this opportunity to work from home (of course, in agreement with your supervisor, who is in charge of ensuring basic operation of his or her entrusted organizational unit). Regardless of your place of work, please use electronic and telephone forms of communication as much as possible, including scanning of invoices, orders, and other documents. Regarding the in-person work-related meetings outside your workplace, please hold them only in the most urgent cases and by prior arrangement with the other party.
- Any person that tests positive for COVID-19 must inform head of group, laboratory or their superior about this fact without unnecessary delay in order for the latter to be able to organize in cooperation with a university GP and the relevant hygiene station an epidemiological investigation or take other prevention measures to mitigate the impacts of this situation on the operation of the university.
- Owners of phones with Android and iPhone operating systems, please consider installing the eRouška 2.0 application.
Information from December 7
Information valid from Decmber 7 to December 18
Starting Monday, December 7, 2020, universities in the Czech Republic can implement the following:
- Laboratory instruction for all levels in groups of up to 20 students,
- Full-time, in-person instruction for the first year students (Bachelor and Master levels) in groups of up to 20 students,
- Doctoral study program instruction,
- Individual consultations, and
- In-person exams for up to 10 students.
Based on this, UCT Prague’s leadership has decided, effective December 7, 2020, that:
- Theoretical instruction for the winter semester shall be completed in a distance format for all study levels,
- Laboratory instruction will be enabled for all levels in the groups up to 20 attendees,
- The permission of the limited, up to 20 attendees, in-person instruction for the first year students (Bachelor and Subsequent Master levels) shall be utilized for individual and group in-person consultations and progress tests/exams,
- Individual consultations for students at all levels are allowed by prior arrangement,
- The already-established regime for doctoral study programs shall continue as it is,
- All students will be able to return to university dormitories.
Students will receive information about individual subjects from subject guarantors/instructors. If relevant information is not provided, we ask students to take an active approach in relation to their guarantors (instructors).
Procedure for exams and grades
- The Winter Semester examination period will be extended by two weeks (January 4 to February 26, 2021).
- UCT Prague’s leadership prefers the in-person form of examinations and final tests. In justified cases, it will be possible to complete an exam/final test in distance form. The form and procedure for an exam/final test lies fully within the discretion of the subject guarantor.
Laboratories in the examination period
- During the examination period, guarantors will be able to carry out laboratory instruction, which UCT Prague’s leadership recommends. All details (such as whether laboratory instruction will take place with attendance limitation, when they will be held, etc.) will be communicated to students in advance by guarantors/heads of laboratories.
- In the event that laboratory instruction will not be able to be held by the end of the examination period due to capacity or other serious reasons, it is not the student’s fault, and thus the lab credit requirement will be reduced from the originally prescribed requirements. These will then be moved to the requirements for the following Summer Semester.
- In the event that a student becomes ill with Covid-19 or is officially ordered into quarantine, he/she must immediately notify their subject guarantor. A substitute examination date will be communicated to the student by the subject guarantor/head of the laboratory.
We are currently preparing a change in the organization of the academic year
The clear priority for this is to facilitate laboratory instruction and to maintain sufficient time frame for exams and proper completion and defence of final theses.
Main changes in the organization of the academic year:
- Winter Semester: extension of the examination period by two weeks (January 4 through February 26, 2021),
- Enabling instructors to carry out laboratory instruction during the examination period,
- Postponing the beginning of the Summer Semester by two weeks (starting March 1, 2021),
- Shortening of Summer Semester instruction down to 13 weeks (March 3 through May 28, 2021),
- Summer Semester: postponing the first part of the examination period (May 31 to July 2, 2021),
- Postponing, by a week, the deadline for submission of bachelor’s theses for the first term of the final examination (June 11, 2021),
- State final exam for Bachelor studies: postponing the beginning of the Bachelor state final exam period (June 21 through June 30, 2021),
- For the second term of the state final exam at the Bachelor level, dates will not change,
- Postponing by a week the Master thesis submission deadline (May 17, 2021), and
- The timing for the Master’s level state final exam will not change.
Regarding the change of organization of the academic year, a supplement to Decree No. A/V/961/16/2020 will be issued.
Instruction during the summer semester
Possibilities for in-person instruction at universities will be directly dependent on the decision of the national ministries, i.e. the Government of the Czech Republic. These institutions are currently governed by PES, the anti-epidemic system of the Czech Republic, the current form of which (regarding the national education system) can be found HERE (Czech only).
Information from september 2020
Detailed information
edited on 18 September, to be in line with city regulation
We highlight the most important measures below. You can find the translation of the full decree on the bottom of this webpage now. It is necessary to acquaint yourselves with the decree in its entirety.
In all enclosed areas at the university, the wearing of masks or other face and nose coverings is mandatory. This does not apply to employees working in their own offices or to those consuming food and beverages in university catering facilities.
Neither students nor instructors may attend in-person lectures or hybrid courses if they have symptoms of infectious diseases or if they know they have been in close contact (within the last 15 minutes) of someone waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test. In the case that a student exhibits any symptoms of COVID-19 while attending class in-person, an instructor is required to remove the student and instruct them to leave the university premises immediately.
Lectures and non-laboratory clases must be provided in the form of pre-recorded instructional videos or online lectures.
Instructors are required to record attendance for in-person laboratory courses, minimally an attendance list of students in a class (including day, time). We recommend recording the locations of where students were working in the laboratory.
University employees and students are required to follow current information and instruction bulletins published online at https://www.vscht.cz/koronavirus and via the UCT Prague “EMIL” application (https://emil.vscht.cz).

UCT Prague regards international cooperation as a vital part of its teaching and scientific activities and purposely extends and deepens this cooperation. Due to the active participation of academic staff in international scientific and educational projects and programmes (such as the EU FPs, TEMPUS, COST, COPERNICUS, EEA grants, NATO…), networking and contact making are continually expanding both in the terms of content as well as geographically. The main criterion for a new cooperation partner is the quality—related either to educational activities or to scientific quality and reputation; the assumption of mutual academic collaboration and reciprocity in student and staff mobility is very important. The areas of cooperation are linked more or less to technical chemistry, food chemistry and technology, material sciences, process engineering, chemical technologies and informatics, biotechnology etc. International scientific and educational events ongoing abroad or held at UCT Prague are also used for meeting new potential partners. Information about UCT Prague are disseminated through printed leaflets, brochures and presentations during staff international mobility.
At present, the University of Chemical and Technology Prague maintains nearly 150 Erasmus bilateral agreements with universities across Europe and more than 50 other agreements with partners not only in Europe but also in the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, India and many other countries. UCT Prague is open to quality cooperation with all geographical areas. Cooperation with the European partners is of course the most frequent due to the easiest accessibility and lower financial cost.
The main objective of the internationalization is to keep UCT Prague at the top position with respect to both educational and scientific quality. Therefore, attention is consistently paid to the international mobility of staff and expanding opportunities to study abroad for UCTP students. The university seeks after all available resources to support long-term (one-two semesteral) study stays for students at all levels and this form of students' international experience will continue to develop. UCT Prague has fully implemented ECTS and Diploma Supplement Label, facilitating the recognition of studies abroad. For students mostly at doctoral level, internships and placements at leading scientific institutions are provided. Short-term stays at summer schools, conferences and workshops are consistently supported for students of MSc And PhD degrees. In addition to the LLP/Erasmus mobility, students participate in other international programmes, such as AAD, CEEPUS, AKTION, ATHENS, etc. The participation of scientific and pedagogical staff in international projects is highly recommended and supported; the presentation of results and making of new contacts are expected. The attempt to increase the number of teaching staff mobility will be permanently supported.
Great care is given to foreign students and visiting teaching staff. UCT Prague provides international students accredited Bachelor's and Master's study programmes taught in English and—for Erasmus students—a number of courses taught in English. The organization of Czech language courses for foreign students is considered an important activity in the internationalization and students' integration at the university.
Based on a long term cooperation with selected partner universities, double degree study programmes at Master and Doctoral levels in particular were established. Implementation of two Masters and two doctoral ERASMUS MUNDUS programmes resulted from multilateral interuniversity cooperation. Our further aim is to involve more Czech students in courses taught in English.
A very welcome and supported form of internationalization at UCT Prague is receiving doctoral students and trainees from third countries. Other successful activities we will continue to develop are short-term intensive training courses for students and teachers from third countries.
UCT Prague actively participates in a number of international projects and seeks for further participation in projects targeted towards teaching and training. The most successful implemented project is ERASMUS MUNDUS. Two Masters’ study programmes (EM3E and IMETE) have been running for two years; students studying under a consortium of European universities spend one semester at UCTP, some of them prepare also their diploma project and thesis here. UCTP has adopted all necessary procedures for issuing the joint diploma. Similarly, a doctoral programme EUDIME was implemented. During their stay at UCTP, PhD Students are actively involved in scientific research teams. The fourth EM project is EURINDIA where UCTP trains one PhD Student from India.
UCT Prague participates regularly in TEMPUS projects; in the past, through individual advisors/evaluators of several projects, currently as a partner. In this project, UCT Prague organizes intensive professional courses for teachers and students from Russian universities involved in the project.
Another form of cooperation is the participation of UCT Prague in ERASMUS thematic projects. The first one is the ISEKI-Food (originally FoodNet), which maps the teaching of food science and technology in Europe and to which UCTP has contributed a number of documents and data. The second example is the participation in the European Chemistry Thematic Network (ECTN and EC2EN2) which resulted in the possibility to grant IVTP graduates title EuroBachelor®.
Participation of UCT Prague in these projects is reflected in curricula modernization, creation of new degree programmes, awarding of double/joint diploma and implementation of new reaching methods and organization of studies. An integral part of the internationalization is an active students' club ESC and its involvement in the European network ECN; ESC plays an important role in the integration of foreign students into the local environment.

GENERAL RECOGNITION OF PREVIOUS EDUCATION (Nostrification)
GENERAL RECOGNITION OF SECONDARY EDUCATION
The general recognition of secondary education ("nostrification”) is regulated by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and provided by the educational departments of regional authorities. In the case of Prague, the competent authority is Prague City Hall (Magistrát hl.m.Prahy). How to proceed?
A certificate on the general recognition is valid for all universities. However, an applicant generally needs to be in the Czech Republic to apply in person and the process of recognition takes few months. If the content and scope of education at a foreign school partly differ, the Regional Authority shall order the applicant to sit a recognition examination.

If not, you are advised to inquire which other public higher education institution in the Czech Republic (HEI) provides a study programme corresponding with your prior education in order to apply for the recognition.
Please note:
According to the administrative code, the applicant cannot require the recognition of the same higher education qualification from multiple public HEIs simultaneously. If the request is rejected by a university, the applicant can submit it to another HEI only after the rejection has become legally effective (i.e. after 15 days from receipt of the decision).
In case of doubts, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR appoints the respective university to assess the qualification, or makes the decision itself. The Ministry acts as an appellate body for rejected applications.

Verification of documents regarding the level of education
UCT Prague requires, in accordance with the section 90, subsection 3 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, authentication of signatures and stamps on the original of certificates and diplomas.
It's important that all the documents are verified in the country which issued them.
The authentication requirements differ according to the international treaties applying to the country where the original document was issued. Countries (states) can be divided into three groups:
- A as Apostille- For members of the Hague Convention the legalization proceeds by Apostille – an unified form of authentication of documents issued by the competent administrative body of the state in which the document was issued
- B - Verification is not required for documents issued in countries which are parties to a relevant international agreement abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents
- L as Legalization/superlegalization- Unless the international agreement sets otherwise, the authenticity of signatures and stamps on the document must be verified by a two bodies:
- the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, where institution which issued the document is based
- respective representative office of the Czech Republic (e.g. Embassy / Consulate) in the country where the institution which issued the document is based

MORE INFORMATION
If it is found during the recognition proceeding that it is not within the scope of rector’s responsibility to make a decision on the request for recognition of foreign higher education, e.g. because UCT Prague does not provide a similar study programme, the fee is not charged, and, if already paid, will be returned to the applicant.
There is no refund of the fee if the recognition proceeding is discontinued due to a deficient application (absence of documents necessary for assessing the application), and the applicant’s failure to remove the deficiency upon request.
There is no refund of the fee in case of rejection of the application due to substantial differences between the compared study programmes.
In case the purpose of the recognition is not further study, the equality of the education will be assessed in accordance with the Agreement – if substantial differences between the compared study programmes are found, the rector may reject the application.
APPEAL PROCEDURE
Applicants are entitled to submit an appeal within 15 days upon receiving the decision. The appeal is submitted to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic through University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (or, in general terms, through the institution that has issued the decision). The university will either allow the appeal in full, or passes it on to the Czech Ministry of Education no later than 30 days upon receipt of the appeal. The Ministry will then issue a final decision.
