Summary
The course involves lectures and seminars focused on the development of building structures from Middle-age to the beginning of the 20th century. The topics are divided into separate themes and cover basic review of all types of historical constructions (load bearing and non-load bearing structures, timber structures etc.).
Syllabus
- Introduction to study of historical constructions; basic of study and drawing of project documentation of historic buildings.
- Built walls of brick and stone including foundations, building procedure and specify elements (fitting, cornice)
- Arches and their construction
- Timber constructions 1 - wood processing, curb, frame and half-timber walls
- Timber constructions 2- ceilings
- Timber constructions 3 - roof frame
- Roofs: roofing, dormer window, tinsmith's works
- Floors and pavages, staircases
- Furnace
- Gates, doors including hooking on, locksmith's works
- Windows including their glassing, locksmith's works
- Surface finishing (plasters and coatings)
- Smith's elements (banister and grids), supplement constructions (conduits etc.)
- Modern and technical building constructions (reinforced concrete, steel constructions)
