Distinguished French Scientist Pascal Mayer Delivered a Lecture at UCT Prague

On Friday, 26 June 2026, UCT Prague welcomed Prof. conv. Pascal Mayer, a distinguished French scientist, entrepreneur, and pioneer of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies, for a special lecture held at the AI Building.

Entitled "Pluridisciplinarity at Work: From Next Generation DNA Sequencing to Next Generation Therapeutics," the lecture highlighted how scientific breakthroughs emerge through collaboration across disciplines and how transdisciplinary approaches are shaping the future of medicine.

Dr. Pascal Mayer, Honorary Chair at the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Studies, Affiliated Professor at the University of Strasbourg (ISIS), and CEO and Co-founder of Alphanosos, shared his experience from the development of Next Generation Sequencing technologies to the creation of innovative therapeutic strategies. Drawing on examples from genomics, biophysics, artificial intelligence, and systems biology, he demonstrated how interdisciplinary research is driving the discovery of safer and more effective treatments for infectious diseases, cancer, and other complex health challenges.

The lecture provided students, doctoral candidates, researchers, and faculty members with a unique opportunity to hear from one of the pioneers of modern genomics and to explore the transformative potential of cross-disciplinary research.

The event was held under the auspices of the French Embassy in the Czech Republic and was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IOCB Prague).
