Viola Tokárová of UCT Prague Receives L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award
Associate Professor Viola Tokárová of the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCT Prague has become one of the three laureates of the 2026 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme. She received the award for her project focused on developing a tool for the earlier detection of endometriosis.
Endometriosis is a chronic disease that, according to the World Health Organization, affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age. Viola Tokárová’s project draws on her expertise in microfluidics and the development of bio-inspired surfaces.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme has operated in the Czech Republic since 2006, supporting women scientists in advancing their research and professional careers. Three laureates were recognised in the programme’s 20th edition, each receiving financial support of CZK 200,000.
Associate Professor Tokárová’s achievement follows last year’s award presented to Associate Professor Jitka Viktorová of UCT Prague.
